Kylie and Michael’s unforgettable wedding day at The Duke of Marlborough in Russell, Bay of Islands. If you were wondering how to do a coastal celebration, with elevated vibes and a bold splash of colour – then this is it! This September wedding was the perfect blend of modern chic in one of the most beautiful places in NZ.
We woke up to a crisp but warm sea breeze, calm ocean waters, and blue skies overhead. With most of their crew staying at the Duke itself, we enjoyed a fresh morning dip and a coffee down the road to start the day right.
One of the most special moments was their first look on the grand veranda of The Duke of Marlborough. A quiet, intimate pause away from eyes before the celebration unfolded. It was even more meaningful to me to witness this day, as they celebrated alongside Kylie’s dear mum, Gill. Making every moment and photo even more precious. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend of mine. We miss you Gilly.
Kylie & Michael tied the knot in the lush garden just outside The Duke of Marlborough. Surrounded by tropical palms & their closest people, overlooking the iconic Russell Wharf.
The Details
Kylie wore a silk gown by Hayes Bridal. Minimalist in silhouette, but breathtaking in detail. It had a halter neckline, an elegant backless cut, and a statement bow with a pair of Jimmy Choo’s & red lippy. The perfect match alongside vibrant pastel pink, bold red, and purple florals. Inside this iconic hotel, the reception was bursting with colourful signage and decor & cake to match. Reflecting Kylie’s own attention to detail, being the incredible interior designer she is. The welcome sign that read “two less fish in the sea” couldn’t have fit these two better.
After indulging in the fresh oysters, and pouring the champagne tower, we captured golden hour portraits out on the wharf, as the sun set in a golden blaze giving is the most dreamy light —the perfect way to wrap up our photo session to a truly incredible day at one of New Zealand’s most iconic coastal wedding venues.
We dined over the most incredible food & signature cocktails and snapped a few cute night portraits in the pink dining room sounded by trophy game on the walls – a fishermans paradise.
If you’re dreaming of your own wedding at The Duke of Marlborough, I’d love to capture it for you. Get in touch so we can start curating something epic.
We documented the day across both digital and analog film
